Focus

Journal 52 started on the 1st January and the prompt for this week is Word of the Year.  I've never chosen a word for the year before but I.m giving it a go in 2016.  The word I have chosen is Focus.  I'm finally going to use the lovely journal my dear friends Karen and Phillip gave me as a birthday present.
The pages have a coat of gesso on them and then I've applied one of the yellow paints from Paper Artsy with a baby wipe.  I've written the word Focus across the two pages.
I've turned the O in the word into an eye and used black acrylic paint to outline the letters and image.

I wanted to use up some of my paper scraps so trace part of the eye image out and used this as a template to cut out the pieces of paper I wanted.  I realised I had one too many circles for the eye and so tried to paint over it with a teal blue but as you can see it didn't cover the black outline.  To rectify this I used Snowflake Paper Artsy paint over the central image and also to colour in the other letters which I want to paint in different colours.

To finish off the page I have used some vibrant Paper Artsy paints for the letters and eye, distressed background stamps from Stamplorations and distress ink around the edges of the page.  I bought myself some pens to practice calligraphy with, while I was practicing I did okay but when it got to writing in the journal my wording wasn't quite so good - possibly due to not having my hand resting on a flat surface all the time.  Next time I might write onto strips of card and glue them in.

All in all I'm quite pleased with my first Journal 52 piece.

I've been working on the journal a little each day as I have also been busy with The Listers Gotta List and the 5 Year Journal which I am also really enjoying - both of these are helping me work my way through my scraps box.  This is my scraps box before I started working on the projects, it will be interesting to see how much is left in there at the end of the month.
This week as I'm on leave I have plenty of time and reasonable reserves of energy to work on all of my projects.  I don't anticipate it will be quite so easy next week when I am back at work but I will do what I can, when I can and ensure I enjoy every minute of it.
